Sneak Peek! Here are a few of this week’s delicious highlights from our vendors:

Chapel Hill Creamery:  A lot of people don’t know we are a dairy that also sells meat. The meat is one side of the business that helps keep us sustainable financially, and the meat is delicious. Beef from Jersey cows is tender and known for flavor. See what we have listed on our whiteboard when you come to the market.

New from Speckled Bird Farm:  Crocheted Dishcloths, 100%  cotton and lovingly handmade by Evelyn! Find these along with her beautiful gourd birdhouses this week at market.

Lil’ Farm: The Lil’ Farm booth was really popping last week, with colorful root veggies like watermelon radishes, hakurei turnips, purple daikon radishes, and beets, as well as kale, bell peppers, mustard greens, ginger, bok choy, collards, lettuces, and more.

Chocolatay Confections: Last week, chocolatier Danielle and crew offered up tasty “Cocoa Nuts” – candied pecans tossed in cocoa powder. Believe us, this is staff tested and approved delicious!

You + Crisp Sunshine + Cozy Sweaters + Hot Coffee + the DFM = HAPPINESS

Let us set the scene for a great Saturday Market…

Here we go, close your eyes, and imagine it’s bright and early on Saturday morning. (The Durham Farmers’ Market vendors have been up and at ’em while the moon and stars were still out, but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a couple extra minutes of sleep! You wake to find a BEAUTIFUL, bright and chilly fall morning outside). You look outside and notice the silver halos of frost around the leaves and blades of grass. And then it hits you – you NEED to go experience this gorgeous morning! Like really experience it. Like getting out of the house and into the sunshine, bundled up nice and warm and enjoying the tingle of chill on your nose. After all, who doesn’t like to feel like a kid again, blowing puffs of frosty breath into sunshine? And just like that, you’ve got the #getoutside bug!  With your warm jacket and scarf, thick socks, reusable grocery bag, and appetite ready, you head to the farmers market! And what awaits you but locally made baked goods, hot coffee, freshly picked flowers, and a variety of the freshest produce and goods. You see other happy folks, out enjoying Durham Central Park, chatting with farmers, and picking out their weekly groceries. Farm fresh eggs, bacon and potatoes, crisp lettuces, root veggies of every color, spicy kimchi, vegan and gluten free meals, flavorful kombucha, handmade soaps and lotions, and much much more. It’s a downtown Durham wonderland of good eats, and all in the glorious sunshine of a perfect fall day. And guess what? This is no dream – MEET US AT THE MARKET tomorrow from 8am-12pm! Goodness abounds, all year around!

Pumpkin Drop Off

Compost your gourds and jack-o-lanterns with The ReCo!

Did you know the USDA reported that approximately 1 BILLION pounds of pumpkins are thrown away each year after Halloween? (that’s over 80%!) And most of those pumpkins end up in landfills where they produce methane, a greenhouse gas. You may think that food products would simply decompose and turn into compost in the landfill, but they don’t! Landfills lack necessary nutrients to break down these veggies in a way that is helpful to the environment and turns them into live giving, nutritious soil.

What a fright! Well have no fear, you can bring your unpainted pumpkins and gourds to the market TOMORROW from 8am-12pm and compost them with The ReCollective! Just sign up for their newsletter and drop them off in their compostables collection bin!

Learn more about our partnership with The ReCo in the weeks to come, and find out more about what The ReCo is getting up to at: https://therecollective.co/
