Sweet Corn, Watermelon, Tomatoes…summer is here!
Thanks to everyone who joined in for our Grill Day last week at market, and stopped by our pastured meat and vegan protein vendors to try samples of their grillables! It was delicious. Vendors will be sampling from time to time during Saturday markets. Feel free to find us at the information table to find out where you might be able to try something new that week!
This week, we’re grateful that the weather has cooled off just a bit from last week, but we are fully ready for the sun and warmth that our summertime plants need to produce colorful & flavorful produce like canary yellow melons, cantaloupe, yellow and red watermelon, okra, sweet corn, serrano peppers, huge yellow, orange, & red bell peppers (at Flat River!), blackberries, patty pan squash, tender zucchini, and much much more. Scroll down to see what’s in season this month at the farmers market tables!
Market Music
This week, Tramaine Bowman is bringing his guitar for a live market music performance on the lawn! Tramaine is a member of local band 723, which you can check out online HERE for music samples & to find out about their upcoming show at Motorco!
Save the Date! Tomato Day 2023
Mark your calendars & be sure to join us for Tomato Day 2023 on Saturday, July 22nd! Vote for your favorite tomato, learn about these amazing summer veggies (fruits!), and of course, taste all of the tomatoes. And we’ll start celebrating on Wednesday July 19th, with a special Tomato Day Sprouts Kids Club activity at the Wednesday Market from 3-6pm!
What’s in Season – July

This Week’s Recipe: Watermelon Salad with Feta and Mint
courtesy of Love and Lemons
With the recent heat wave and all of the summer produce coming from the fields these days, it is a perfect time to break out a refreshing, no-cook recipe! This watermelon salad with feta (or your favorite cheese), cucumbers, and mint or basil is a tasty combination of sweet and tangy. Perfect way to cool down on a warm afternoon! Note – our favorite version of this salad includes fresh tomatoes for an extra flavorful sweet and savory combination!
You can find a variety of cheeses at Chapel Hill Creamery, Celebrity Dairy, & Boxcarr Handmade Cheese; watermelon at Hua Nong Ecorganics Lyon Farms, & South Wind Produce; and a variety of peppers, onions, cucumbers, and herbs at Capritopia, Flat River Farm, Harland’s Creek Farm, Lyon Farms, Maple Spring Gardens, Meadow Lane, Ever Laughter Farm, Lil’ Farm, Hua Nong Ecorganics, South Wind Produce, Wild Scallions Farm, & Hurtgen Meadows.
